ABOUT living legends

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Living Legends Baseball Club focuses on consistent hard work and striving to become a better ball player and person.

Our Philosophy:
  • We instill discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, honesty, and integrity
  • We believe in pushing each other to be better, picking each other up when we are down, and to always believe in yourself while giving your all
  • We focus on team baseball where everyone is expected to contribute, not to be selfish, and to think about the team first
  • We teach our players to respect and understand the game, and to never give up on anything until the umpire yells “Ball Game!
To ensure that everyone is given the chance to succeed, all of our players receive equal coaching and training opportunities and are taught to play multiple positions to help strengthen team depth. Our overall objective is to produce a player with the ability to understand and thrive in any baseball situation they come across in their future.

We have created a family-friendly environment where our parents are just as important as our players. In addition to being supportive fans and cheering on the players, we also expect our parents to respect and support the coaching staff and the decisions they make. We encourage an open line of communication between coaches and parents at appropriate times usually before or after an event. We offer player evaluations which are shared with the players and parents when needed. It’s important that all players and parents set reasonable goals that the player must agree to and be held accountable for.

We believe that character is revealed in times of adversity. By putting these young baseball players in extremely competitive situations, we help them develop the skills needed to succeed not only on the baseball field but in life.

Program Goals:
  1. Provide each player the opportunity to learn, develop, and improve their baseball skills on a regular basis
  2. Provide each player an atmosphere that encourages mental, social, and emotional maturity
  3. Offer individual, team and group instruction by top local coaches and instructors
  4. Develop and field successful teams at all levels
  5. Prepare players for high school and college advancement

Coach Jim idolized players such as Nolan Ryan, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey Jr, and Bo Jackson and admired how hard they played and competed. As a player, he learned to play every position to not only ensure a spot in the lineup and help any team's needs but to increase his overall knowledge of how to play the game from different perspectives. Coach Jim was taught to always play hard, hustle, and to be a team first player. All of which he strives to pass on to the players he coaches today. His knowledge and experience in baseball have given him the ability to relate to the players he coaches and to encourage them positively but with the fire and passion needed to drive a player to give you their all. Whether it was winning championships at all levels of Briarwood Little League or the many tournaments won in the different age groups of travel ball, Coach Jim has the vision and capability to take a group of kids and lead them to be the best that they can be, both on and off the field. Coach Jim is currently the Manager of the 13U Gray team which was recently promoted from AAA to Majors and just won their 3rd Major championship. Coach Luis brings over 25 years of playing and coaching experience to the Living Legends Baseball Club. Since he was old enough to swing a bat, he was playing baseball in the backyard with his brother, and he passes on the family tradition of baseball to the next generation through teaching his 5-year-old nephew how to play ball. First and foremost, baseball is supposed to be fun, but it’s far more than just a game to Coach Luis; It’s a fundamental part of life, teaching many lessons which span beyond the diamond. Baseball has helped Coach Luis develop the resiliency to handle life’s many challenges, which he strives to pass on to his players. Both in baseball and in life there are going to be ups and downs, and baseball affords kids an opportunity to practice battling through slumps and never giving up. Yogi Beara said, “Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical.” This is one of Coach Luis’ favorite quotes because it emphasizes the importance of becoming a student of the game, and is a reminder that to be great, 140% effort is required. Coach Luis’ primary position is catcher, and going all out, while having fun has been the cornerstone of his success. He attended Silver Creek High School, where he lettered in Baseball and earned the Defensive Player of the Year Award in his Senior Year. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, and while attending school there, he played in the Tijuana Semi-Pro League, winning back-to-back League Championships with his teammates. He has also coached and mentored several of his nieces and nephews from Tee Ball - Collegiate Levels, and his overarching message to them has been, “you can’t beat the person who never gives up.” Coach Luis is currently a private instructor for catchers and the assistant coach for our 13u division.
